You threw away your freedom of speech right after you click "accept" at the EULA screen. When you're playing GW, you're in Anet's house. Their way or high way.
So shut up.

There's the section. It says that violation is at the sole discretion of NC Interactive Support. The word 'innapropriate' is bandied about quite a bit, but as appropriate or innappropriate is completely subjective I personally wouldn't mind some clarification on what NC Interactive actually does deem innappropriate.

There's no way I can get behind this suggestion. Most people, including the OP, understand the risk involved with typing profanity, even if it's only one word, in chat. If you don't want to take a chance on getting your account SUSPENDED, don't type stupid s...tuff in the chat window!
Removing the option would do nothing but have offensive language get reported by clicking on the "spamming" option, which is currently used to report gold sellers & obnoxious recruiters!
Do what I do; yell at the monitor, it'll never get offended by anything you say! (I make sure I'm not on TS when I do)

Now while there is a chat filter, it's not perfect. Kids aren't stupid-if they see **** then they can figure out via context what's being blotted. And while I don't think they should be sheltered from profanity, it's more important for them to know when and where it's appropriate to swear (in my mind profanity isn't a right-it's a privilege). A public location (whether IRL or In game) is not such a time or place. Thus we all need to act like mature responsible adults and limit our language to more private locations (guild chat, team chat, vent or TS).

(Yes, I realize this was about a page ago, but I had to comment on this.)
Personally, though, the most abusive I've gotten was "damn" because of those damn somethings that kept killing me... o_O;

There is a swearing filter, if you don't like everyday language, use the filter.
You know what we really need? We need a /report function for bad spelling and grammar!

The same can be said for 'racist' language. If you don't want to see it, turn the chat filter off.
The report option is "Verbal Abuse" not "Foul Language", so it has other purposes. But if someone is verbally abusing someone else, then the person being abused should use ignore instead of whining to Papa Bear Anet.
Personally, people should learn to do things for themselves every once in a while. If the report option is used and the person who did the reporting could have averted the situation themselves, that person should be perma banned, imo.

Everything you have said has already been explained before, but of course you don't need to read a thread to reply! GRR TOPIC TITLE MAKE ME ANGRY GRR REPLY BUTTON IS MY BITCH GRR.
.
Sidenote: Payne, I'm glad you know how I've obviously been banned, considering I haven't. I don't want your cookie, I might catch retard off you.

really am falling off my chair laughing at how pathetic your argument is.....and how childish you are
people will generally read the OP then post their views!!!
you are whining about how you were mini-banned for VA and then you go onto insult me as "a retard" I think your argument loses even more credability (well if it had any left) as you seem to be insulting every one that posted - so if you are just gonna troll gtfo or just don't post again if you are unhappy with the responses...
cookie? or a new one - (torn)? <<<understand the reference?

here's a statement to think of
12+
would you like to see your kids be exposed to strong language? or do you like to know your kids already known very abusive language wether or not to insult another person?
i've known players younger than this btw so
that's my 2 cents and a box cover
offc i'm 17 and i can cuss like there's no tommorow, but i keep my tone down when young children may be around (kamadan, etc..., all of local chat really)

When you agreed to the EULA, you agreed to their terms. Deal with it.
Participation in the game, or on this forum, is a privilege, not a right. Get over this idea that you have some kind of God-given right to be offensive to others. The real world doesn't work that way.
If Anet wants to take a stance against cussing, great. I'm thrilled that my family is not exposed to a bunch of people who are so immature that they feel their 'right' to use offensive language outweighs common courtesy or my right not to have to read it on the chat screen. If Anet didn't have a filter, I wouldn't be playing, and certainly I would not have bought the account for my son. It's bad enough that I have the filter on high and I still have to turn off the local channel because of some of the raunchy/foul language that does get through by those who feel evading the filter is just hilarious.
All this tells me is that some people a. are too selfish to extend the courtesy to their fellow players of a pleasant and non-offensive playing environment, and b. they're not intelligent enough to come up with a creative alternative to the expletive(s) in question.

It really is that simple.

If they do ban for swearing without directing it anyone or being offensive, they should stop, because it makes the report option false, and the language filter pointless.
|
This. Words that other people would consider racy or inappropriate are part of my normal speech, and I don't like having to suppress myself for people who are too immature to handle my language. At the same time, not having this option would stimulate a similar group to exploit the idea and swear at all times that it would serve to be inappropriate.
Then again, if you're playing with players that take serious offense to what you say, you probably shouldn't be playing with them, or it should be easily settled through a discussion or comment, and not a report.

Sure, I don't agree with using racism and stuff but if someone is saying stuff like that there are so many ways around it. Got two people paying 500g for a 2 plat CoF run before because of my swearing. I said RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO when I died once because someone lured out spiders and got us a party wipe. And I can't do anything about it, because if they report me I'm going to get a 3 day ban or a week ban.
This kind of situation is rare, but seriously people need to either grow up a little or just not take a fantasy game so seriously.
Edit: Lol I think you can guess what that wordfiltered word is, I think thats fine but why cant people on GW wordfilter too?
|
If you're so old and mature, why not take responsability for your actions? If youre going to break the user agreement, expect to suffer the concequences. Also... I've never seen arenanet do anything about language if I am honest. I've seen people say that "black people are retrograde" and mean it, I reported it, nothing. Not even a warning. The same person said a lot of homophobic stuff too, reported it, not a word from arenanet. I hardly believe a little swear word would get you a week's ban.
